The Jack E. & Greta W. Stalsby Charitable Foundation was created by Jack and Greta Stalsby who wish to “give back” and “provide others a chance,” to grow and succeed in life through education. They were taught that “there are no free rides in life, but there is opportunity,” for those who are willing to take the calculated risk; to dream; and to build; to fail; and succeed.
Jack and Greta Stalsby share an interest in education that runs deep. As leaders in business, they wish to help young men and women develop their leadership abilities informed by good character. As patriots, they aim to assist young people in gaining the knowledge and understanding necessary for useful citizenship and service to the cause of freedom.
Founded on the premise that education is the road to a productive and useful life the Stalsby’s have chosen to use their assets to perpetuate the education of deserving young people who possess leadership abilities, intelligence and talents and also demonstrate financial need.
Jack’s father was killed in an automobile accident when Jack was 18 months old. He was raised by a widowed mother with a sixth-grade education who believed in education as a way to advance one’s life. Greta was an adopted orphan from Hope Cottage in Dallas, Texas. The Stalsby’s have no children and little close family.
When the Stalsby’s got married, they worked for others. In time, however, Jack used his education and talent to form his own petroleum marketing company and became an entrepreneur, banker, publisher and investor. With Greta’s help, they worked, saved and accumulated to become comfortable, successful and resourceful.
The Stalsby’s have concluded that the best use of their good fortune is to share, encourage and promulgate the education of outstanding young citizens who possess the traits of leadership and intelligence that will form the foundation of America’s future. Both Jack and Greta believe that a person can accomplish anything if he or she will persevere. Having a college degree helps. According to Jack, “having a college education doesn’t make you smarter, but it does make you equal.” The Stalsby’s want to give back and help others to become “equal” and “have a chance” in life through education. |
